Lonesome Runoff

It's been too long since I looked anyone in the eyes.

I am working on the record of the loneliest life.

I am ready to come down from the mountain,

I will face the crowd and tell them loudly what I learned.

This type of life needs movement.

You need to find some body in front of you.

I need to find some body in front of me.

I want to look some body in the eyes.

---

I'm drawing figures in flight

they're so high in the night

you can't see them with the naked eye

dust off your telescope

hand me binoculars

so i can read them so slow on my mind

I'm willing to eat in the car if you'll drive me back home

they built a robot to push me around

"hand over the contents of your pockets," it growls

it snorts in the corner with ninety-nine sounds

yeah, they built a robot to push me around

I only came to visit

please don't get so explicit

I don't want to get busy

don't you know how to listen?

(empty the contents of your pockets)

---

the phone doesn't ring so you drag your fingers across the chimes

You've made thirty hours of overtime but there's nothing to spend it on

muscle shirts and drive thrus

there's a few who get up and look for the car with the powerful bass

that powerful powerful powerful bass; who is is that car with the powerful bass?

you are the complete set

you are perfection in excess

nothing can go wrong

so much preparation into your coastline but the coastline is still compromised

you find yourself lost in the brush fires wondering why all your therapists lie to you

shots of cold tequila and lines of hype in your heart, a chimney and breakfasts of misery light

television radiation, you've got some new fuses in a plastic bag

a set of lungs you keep in your chest next to a love that you still have

yeah, you still have it

---

baby, it is obvious there's other people in your life

you're too vital of a girl to give one person all your time

honey i ain't asking you to stay with me or be my wife

honey it is obvious there's other people in your life

baby you're so beautiful, tell me what i need to do

who do I need to shove around in order to get some time with you?

i ain't threatened by those other men

i could beat them all

if any those guys go and throw a fit

baby just give me a call

baby, you're incredible, tell me what I need to do

who do I need to shove around in order to get some time with you?

yeah, just point 'em out!

---

when i was younger i was frightened of demons

now that i'm older i am frightened of myself

i chase after things that may or may not exist

i am angriest when you try to help

---

(yeah, we're gonna throw them off)

no you can't come in 'cause the president is praying.

he's making the service

he is praising Jesus

he does it to please us yeah

he's the most zealous

the people may be dying but the president is praying.

the bullets might be flying but the president is praying.

the waves might be gaining but the president is praying.

the army is invading and they're planning on staying

yeah he's got a calling

he's got knowledge

he's got service to his country

he's got realizations, honest

he's got several years in a military college

he's got the bomb!

we can't lose 'cause he's got the bomb!

I've got news for you dude! he's got the bomb!

---

television and wine

thoughtless, wasted, on time

busted ceiling and floor

broken window and door

you rent the room to strangers

you're distracted by the famous

you're guilty by the names of the blameless

they've thrown their stones full blown at their own reflection

well damn, woman, who's left?

they've all gone home

---

you've got my stars aligned

will you read my palm tonight?

my love lines run a thousand lines

they lead my eyes into your eyes

you're really put together

can i interest you in putting me together too?

tell my future to me straight

com 'on baby, I can't wait!

tell my fortune and my fate

i need your love to help me concentrate

---

i know it's a bad idea

i can't trust anyone when there's a war

I won't see the sky anymore

i stay inside i lock up my doors

I won't trust anyone when there's a war

but i'm so lonely i will take an enemy's face under my roof

for days and days and days i could hide you

I know it's a bad idea

we could eat my food

we could share a room

you could scold me as i misspend my youth

you could tell me lies

you could make them true

i would never challenge you or demand some proof

do i come as a friend or as entertainment?

do you want an end to all this bloodshed?

are you a lover who can keep the beat?

are you here under cover and incomplete?

will you kill me in my sleep?

my eyes are hiding a secret

my lips will never keep it

i'm touching unlocked codes

I'm mapping unseen roads for you

little do I know who you really are

---

orange blood pollution

herbal substitution

let me drink your poison

---

You're tracing a heart over again onto newspaper with your pen.

You're ripping through the newsprint.

You're kicking to get out of the nets.

Jesus is sitting on your steps.

Well, let him.

Let him stay out there all night.

Traitors are born everywhere.

Page by page, the newspaper tears under the weight of your heart.

You're saying, "Where's your saving grace, Jesus?"
